Wellbeing

"The state of being comfortable, healthy and happy."

At Shay Lane Primary School, we believe the wellbeing of staff and pupils is fundamental to the health of the whole school. Our aim is that all staff and children become more resilient, more focused, less stressed, more open and able to cope with life's pressures, together.

Summer term news.

During the second half of the Summer term we have being focusing on wellbeing and have done lots of activities to promote this. Our wellbeing ambassadors have been busy planning activities to complete with their classes.

Year 5 had a compliments day where they wrote messages to each other, they also made some outdoor art pieces using natural materials based on rainforest animals.

This term our Wellbeing Ambassadors have been focusing on Mental Health Awareness week and celebrating Children's Day through a range of activities promoting positivity and small steps to happiness.  As the theme of this year's Mental Health Awareness week has been nature, each class has been allocated a plot in the wildlife area. The children have been busy preparing the ground and planting a range of seeds and plants including lots of vegetables- which they are looking forward to harvesting and eating in the Summer term!

Children in Reception have been having a daily happy thought and passing on a smile. Before home time Reception children bow their heads and close their eyes. They take some time to think of a ‘happy thought’ of the day. This is something that has made us smile throughout the day, a kind thing a friend has done, a self-achievement, a thoughtful gesture they have done to help a friend, a constructive statement from a grown up in school. This positive thought is saved in their heads and the first thing they share with their grown-up as soon as they see them after school. We hope this makes them smile and feel happy knowing we are happy and content at school - We love to pass on a smile in Reception.

Children in Year 1 thought about what made them happy and made happiness jars.

Children in KS2 have been thinking about what makes them happy and have designed a Happiness Jar that is personal to them. The idea is that they can refer back to the jar at times when they are feeling sad or need to feel positive about themselves.

Our amazing Wellbeing Ambassadors have come up with '10 ways to wellbeing'.

This poster will be displayed in classrooms to promote positive and healthy minds among staff and children throughout our school.

Which ways have you tried today?
